    Are you serious???

Have you not checked the posts in this forum???

You take either DVD decripter and rip to your HD

    Shrink to fit with DVD2ONE

Burn files to VIDEO_TS in Nero

or just use Freeware DVD Shrink to rip and shrink to HD and burn in your vavorite burner SW

Really,,, the answers are all over this forum

Simple. You wait for the dual layer DVD+RW drive to come out.

Seriously though, take a look at the GUIDES | DVD Rip section ( <-- ) and read some of the informative guides/how to's.

You can start with this one:

LOL! I was just talking about this same issue today with some of the guys. It is hilarious to me how some people say "Hey! I got a new computer and it came with a DVD burner! Now I can burn DVD's!!!" HAHAHA. It makes me laugh because they think they can just drag and drop or simply click on a "COPY DISC" button. People should figure out what they want to do with their computer and what it can do before they buy it. And please, don't come to this forum trying to figure out how to copy those borrowed DVD's.

    Yes and no.

Before I found this site, I didn't know what rip meant let alone how to do it. But once you've found this site, there's no excuse for not doing any groundwork yourself, especially when the info is right in front of you:

    Bit annoyed now.

Yep, it is true that there is always ground work to be done. But it is also true that this forum is highly rated because it is approachable and friendly. The replies here arent a very good example.

I have had a burner for a few weeks now and started off at square one also but here is what I have learnt so far:

DVD Shrink is an excellent bit of software for compressing the files to fit on one disc and also to remove region coding. Used with Nero to burn the files onto disc, well this is all you need. My results have been very good.

WARNING: Please remember the copyright laws etc.... I dont want you getting in trouble eh!

Ok lets cut the guy some slack here......just point him in the right direction and kindly ask him to do a little research in the future, not slate him so much he is discouraged from posting when he really has a genuine problem.

It's a plethora of DVD Burners for Christmas.

Sorry, but having 3 posts and asking
    How do I copy DVD's?
is fair game. There is that minority of people that simpley can't bother to read anything. Instead of spending an hour browsing and scanning some guides, they immediately ask "How do I copy DVD's". First off, why do they need to copy DVD's? Do they have some pressing need to backup their DVD collection today so badly they couldn't research???

Tough noogies. When you house train a dog you rub their nose in it and tell them no. Eventually they stop going in the house. Same for idiotic questions; smack them once and show them where to go. Eventually they will learn where to go....

  17. carmaster,

    Welcome to the forum.

The reason that you got so many negative replies is that what you asked for is blantantly illegal. Under the DMCR you cannt ask for or provide information on how to remove or bypass copyright protection.

You may ask for information on how to backup personally owned copies of movies on DVD. Under the Fair Use doctrine.

Dont be put off by the replies you have received. This is a great site and the contributors very informed.

As many other members have already stated, if these noobs would just take a hour or two to read some guides they would have about 75% of there problems solved before posting one question. That is all we ask of noobs, people have put alot of time into making those guides, and if I may add, making it very easy for people just starting out to do things that they may not have been able to do on there own. But to have them come out and ask such a basic question kind of aggravates many members because it is obvious that the person has done no reading of searching.

the reason for the passion in the negative replies didn't have to do with the legality of the task as much as it did for the person not taking what seemed to be any initiative to do any research first before posing questions.

This is a friendly forum and has helped me tremendously but you have to be willing to work for what you want (as in life).

No one is questioning someone's right to ask - it's the question that is raising issues. Do you still ask to go to the toilet?

The questioner knew to post his question in the right forum so one presumes it's not too difficult to read some of the guides on the same subject.

I think it is safe to sum up this thread by saying that there are those who are helpful and those who are falling into the "Dicks" category.

The trouble with spouting off at others for not researching enough is that it is sure to bite you in the ass later on. Having noted those who decide to be members of this category, I really do look forward to answering one of your threads soon.

    Kind Regards

    Fallyhag

    ps: Merry Xmas!

    Sunderland: Punctuation and Diction.

Fallyhag: Feel free to call people Dicks, it's a mostly open forum. People can help you, or not, it's their choice. Since you have absolutely no room to talk, being officially registerd 6 whole days?, I'm perfectly within my rights to tell you to shuttup and let the forums work.

Some people get their thrills repeatedly answering the obvious over and over and over. Then there is the other 98% of us that will take shots at specific questions we know something about. That's the way these forums work. The moderators are quite alive and active, and aren't afraid to lock a thread or throw a warning.

Like I said before, it seems every teenager in the US and UK got a DVD burner for Christmas. I've counted no less than 20 threads in the last few days asking how to copy a DVD. Well duh, it's so painfully easy with free software the guide should be 2 lines long:

    1) Open Disk in DVDShrink 3.0.5B, uncheck unwanted items, hit backup - select deep analysis if needed.
    2) Burn

Is that so hard? Don't like the results? Then go to more advanced techniques.....

I knew these questions would be here after the holidays. all the noobs got new toys (dvd burners) and have no idea which way is up. its to be expected this time of year to get questions like this. It is frustrating when people go to a lot of work on guides to help the noobs and they dont take the time to read ( if they know how). first time i came to this forum was to convert an avi to vcd. I did not ask 1 question (on that avi) I found all i needed in a guide and it worked too!!!!. yes people have problems like audio sync, jumpy playback, etc.... but they tried to follow something and they at least learned something in the process. If you dont want to read, your in the wrong place, come here read some guides bounce some educated questions around the forum.

  29. Don't anybody get too bent, just do your homework and the boys won't have to pick up their cudgels again. It must be the better part of two years ago that I discovered this site, learned how to make VCDs by reading the guides, and never joined. Lurker. Joined recently, having gotten a DVD burner, intending to ask for help with difficulty I was having, but worked it out on my own.

Honestly, the guides are generally much more help, you can check details as you go. The forum should be for unforeseen problems, not basic info. :P That said, welcome to all visitors/new members!

  30. It boils down to how lazy individuals are these days, instead of learning or researching a topic they just want to be told what to do. There are far to many lazy people who post crap questions like this. The same lazy bastards who had to ask their momas to help put a rubber on so they could get some from the cat.
