  1. I switched over to dvd2svcd because of the problems I could not stop with TmpgEnc. Anyway, I loaded up one complete divx avi file into avi2svcd and corrected the settings and hit go...after 7 hours the Mpv file was encoded as well as all the audio files....3:2 pulldown ran....but halfway through muxing the first of 2 files it stuck. No freeze....just no response. I tried hitting suspend..then clicking start encoding.....didnt help and the program was using 100% cpu nonstop. I finally cancelled everything out. Now I am trying to manually encode the Mpv file with cinemacraft 2.5 hoping that I could mux it myself to the audio and split the mpg file. Does this sound wise??

    Do tell....

  2. Well,

Due to problems with avi2svcd freezing during muxing I decided to figure out another way that I am sure others have tried. I loaded the full movie into CinemaCraft 2.5 and encoded an MPV file, took 5 hours. It's amazing how much smoother it is compared to Tmpgenc. Now I am gonna extract the audio from the original file and convert to mp2 and try to mux it to see if it works, I tried this earlier with a small file and it worked.

  3. Which encoder were you using with AVI2SVCD where muxing stopped?

  4. I use bbmpeg if that's what you mean. I think it may have gotten stuck because of the MMX setting, by default it is set to Pentium III fastest. I moved it down to MMX.

    Update:

    SUCCESS!!

Upon my recent failed attempt with avi2svcd I saved the AVS file and the cinemacraft project file. I manually opened Cinemacraft using the old project and encoded a new MPV file. Then I proceeded to extract the audio w/ Tmpgenc to create an MP2 file. Then I opened BBMPEG and muxed the 2. I set it to automatically split the resulting file in 2 pieces and behold, 2 perfect files that are as smooth and clear as the missouri skies!! The only thing is that the original file was 23.9fps and I didn't use pulldown because it sucks. I tried every possible setting and even tried using the GUI but I never have any luck with that darn thing. Luckily, NTSC FILM 23.9fps plays fine on my dvd player as an SVCD.

I only need to know 2 things. One. How do I get cinemacraft to convert the video w/ vbr multipass or whatever to increase quality? The AVS file doesn't show a parameter. I tried going back into AVI2SVCD and creating another AVS file with the desired parameter but there is nothing to tweak in the AVS file. Any hints??

Lastly, Is there any other option besides pulldown.exe to end up with 29.97??

I am shocked at how easy it is to do things this way and bypass all the crap to convert to SVCD.

  5. Actually I accidentally found that clicking on the template button in CCE you get a box where you can change quite a few settings to alter the quality. I also notice that in the ecl project file there are script commands like one that changes the vbr pass to 3. If I change the vbr pass to 5 in the template, would the ecl project file override this doing a 3 pass? That is a good question because between the project file and the template there would be a conflict assuming. What setting is it exactly that gives great quality?? Is it the avg bitrate, min bitrate, 'quality' slider<<i notice this shows complex and flat(???)...point is, I used 1 pass, 3 pass, and CBR but the video still looks VCD'ish. You son't think leaving the video at 23.976 could cause this do you?? It plays fine in the DVD player but would the quality suffer due to not being compliant?? These are some questions I cannot find answers to around here.
