  1. Hmmm this is driving me crazy. My dvd burner start act strange a few weeks ago, every time I start burning a dvd, cpu use went up to 80-100% and the writte speed was very unstable.

So I thougt, lets test a new firmware and yeah it seemd like the old firmware had been the problem, because after the firmware upgrade I burn about 5 dvd+r, cpu use 0-5% and very stable write spped.

But today I run in to the old problems again. Cpu use almost 100% unstabel writing. I can't even use computer while burning and the monitor start shimmer if i try to do something while burning.

I have test everything I can think of without any results. I wonder if there can be some sort of conflict, but can't figure it out. So I realy need all advises I can get!

100% CPU usage while burning sounds like a hard drive DMA setting issue.

Assuming you are running Windows, have you checked to make sure your hard drives are still using DMA transfer's and have not slipped into PIO mode?

  3. Well I check that now and primary IDE channel is using Ultra DMA mode 5 so I guees it's not the problem.....

The strange thing is, I burnt a coupel of dvd+r yesterday without those problems, it's weird!

  4. Try to defrag your hdd, maybe that would help?

  5. Well I have already tried to defrag, but it didn't help.

Have nobody had the same problems while burning?

  6. After alot of searching I finally think I found whats wrong. My burner is set in PIO mode. Thats whats making it act so slow and taking that much cpu use.

However I'm not avaible to change it back to dma, so my problems are't over yet!

How can I get it back to dma mode?

  7. Check your BIOS and make sure it is active.

  8. Well my BIOS suck, you can't change any dma setting there!

  9. Uninstall the drive and the IDE channels in the device manager and reboot. It should re-install them and hopefully get it right this time

Is that not what I said? You just checked your hard drive while looking at DMA settings and not your burner? Ugh!

What do you mean? Both harddrivers running Ultra dma 5, my dvd running ultra dma 4 and my fuzzy burner still run in PIO and nothing seems to chnage that
