subtitles problems i divx

Got a stand alone dvd player with divx and subtitles support,so i can burn a divx including the subtitle in srt and everithing works fine exept two things ,the subtitles are too smal and when the background is very lightly i cant read the subtitles anymore .so my question is can i make ‘m bigger and can i put some black shadow around the subs or something before i burn them?.
I’m using the “srt” extension
