i just got a sylvania SSD803 DVD/VHS combination for Christmas. In the manual it says that it will not play Video CDs. does this mean it wont play any SVCDs as well? is there anyway i can bypass that? if not are there any formats that i can convert my files to that will play on the DVD player? thanks in advance

Burn standard DVD compliant disks with VCD MPEG1 files on it. This will work with TMPGenc DVD Author and other authorizing programs.
If you've got VCD CDs now, then you'll need to convert DAT to MPEG1, then reauthor these files to DVD. That will work.
If you've got SVCD CDs now, then you will need to convert and reencode to either 352x480, 720x480, or 352x240. SVCD 480x480 aren't DVD compliant and won't work on DVDs.
Good luck. -
