Hey guys, right now i use DVD decrypter to rip DVDs to my hard drive to be later recompressed by instantcopy. However it takes 40 minutes to have the DVD copied to my hard drive, is there a faster program then this? Btw, i use a tdk dvd burner to rip with and the hard drive is normal 7200 RPM.

Most dvd burners are limited to 2x ripping. If you have a dvd-rom use that for ripping as they're much faster. If not, you'll have to live with those speeds.

Your HDD is not the problem. It's your DVD drives rip speed.
DVD Decrypter should be showing your ripping speed. Its probably 2x. You might be able to increase this by upgrading your FIRMWARE for your DVD drive. Sometimes the manufacturers website will have these updates for download. Worth looking into. I did mine but it didn't help.
Upgrading your DVD reader to a new one that's guaranteed to rip at a better rate. Some I suppose will rip a DVD in about 15 minutes and over 4x guaranteed. Now days these are fairly cheap. A plain old DVD reader drive may be the fastest. I don't know.
Rip only the Main Movie and leave all the other stuff on the DVD. This can be done by adjusting a few settings in DVD Decrypter and maybe reading a few help files. That's what I usually do.
Clean the DVD before you RIP. I've tried that too.
Go make a pot of coffee?
Good luck. -
also try this, get a region free firmware cuz sometimes they unlock the rip speed and if u can, find older firmware versions of your drive. my DHM-G48 was locked at 2x on manufacture's latest firmware so i went back to an older version and tried it then, still 2x, went to an older version and tried it again, finally it worked. i achieved at least 15-30 minuts a movie at 5-7x rip speed, find the lastest firmware with ur drive that unlocks it. CAREFUL, i did all this last nite and i killed my drive, wouldnt open or be recognized. i used mtkflash to THANKFULLY bring it back to life. amazing isnt it?

try that place. Dont use hacked firmwares without reviews saying it works how it's supposed to, i killed mine with an untested "hacked" firmware. -
is this off topic?
which is faster, dvd shrink 3.0 5 beta or 2.3? Im using the beta version, i know the definition of beta but it hasnt given me any problems yet. is one faster than the other? thanks.... -
my liteon dvd drive starts ripping at 7X and goes all the way to 14-15X on a single layer disc, resulting a finished original DVD5 in less then 5 minutes.
but it takes about 10-13 minutes max on a DVD9 -
I've got a Plextor 708A.
My speed was also limited at 2x but somebody at another site told me I had to press the eject button a couple of seconds until the pretty green light would blink at me
Then the tray would open & voila I'm ripping at 7x to 12x speed now.
Perhaps other hacks are available for other burners?
Do a search here or Google or ??? -

Get one of the drives that are on that list that are fast enough for you to accomplish the task you need and then use AnyDVD by Slysoft
AnyDVD simply tricks the PC into thinking that any disk inserted in the drive is an unlocked and region free disk. This will allow you to perform disk to disk duplication in one step using IC.
That's how I have been doing it lately and it works really great.Ummm.. Yeah, what he said... -
i am so happy i posted this, thanks man! that IC hack is wonderful, also i dont have a plextor drive but 2 of my friends do

whitespliff they are asking how, do they put the disc in then eject it a couple times then copy?

Reallyscrued: I doubt there's much difference between Shrink 2.3 and 3.05 when it comes to rip speed UNLESS you activate deep analysis. I don't use deep analysis because:
1) I can't tell the difference on my TV
2) It adds enormously to my encoding time, not so much in Shrink, but because IC insists on reencoding everything at less than 1MB/sec.
I prefer 2.3 because, well, I'm used to it, I don't need the new functions, and I like manually setting compression. That can be useful with doubtful media. Yeah, you can do all that in 3.05 too.
Now a version that could be a bit more selective in discarding extras and keeping menus would be absolutely perfect. But wouldn't that hurt the sales of DR. Shrink's new employer? As it is, I'm just very grateful that there is such a great program as DVDShrink.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
