  1. I'm Looking into getting a cd/dvd printer that will print good quality images on the discs. I have looked at a few epson models and not really sure which would be best suited for the job. Could some of you post some suggestions on which one would be best suited for me?
I would like something under 200.00 that prints good quality discs and decent photo's aswell. I have seen the mods for converting printers, but i dont feel comfortable trying to do one myself. anyone sell those modded printers? i might be intrested in purchasing one if someone has an extra.

    thanks

  2. Hi instead of the epson printer why dont you purchase the dk or casio thermal printers there about £100 or $100, but its a thermal printers so ur disc must be unbranded the ones with the silver top. It does do image but they need to be a certian resolution and prints 1 color at a time. Plus you do not get the problem u get when placing a sticker labels on the disc

    Is that £££ or $$$ ? 8)
I have a epson 900 and am very happy with the results on both disks and photo paper. THe latest printer epson are doing that prints to disk is the 300 which can be had for £149 at PC World etc in the UK or for less online if you can wait for delivery. Price might even be cut now as its SALE time....
I would go for the 300 as it has slots to take memory card from cameras so its got to be good for photo's as well.

  4. The little TDK printer (which is the one I have) is only £70 these days. It does a very professional job ON ANY DISC - not just printables - as long as you don't want photographs printed. It's fine for logos and text. And its permanent (unlike the Epson).

I am not trying to steal this thread, however the topic IS cd/dvd printing.
I received an epson 900 for christmas. The printed results are acceptable.
HOWEVER the price of the replacement ink cartridges is rediculous.
Can ANYONE tell me APPROXIMATELY how many disks you can print
on a single set of cartridges. I realise that this will vary greatly with
the amount of color and coverage. Here in canada, the pair, color and
    black is over $80.00.
Ergo, if you can only print about 80 disks, it than costs a buck a disk.
That is too much for a pretty looking disk.
If you can print APPROX 240 disks = $0.33 per, than that is reasonable.
Any response would be GREATLY appreciated

  7. On the first set of carts i got around 50 disks plus covers a mixed batch of cd's and dvd's plus various other printouts thanks to my daughters heavy hand....
Dont buy the epson carts though there are plenty of compatable carts out there that cost far less. In the Uk you are looking at approx£50 for epson colour and black together Yet i buy cpompatable carts and get both for less than £10...No diffrence in quality in prints as well..

    Hi,

I got an Epson Stylus Photo R300 from Best Buy couple of weeks ago and I can tell you it does great job. I have to lower the quality settings because the pictures it prints are too good /too much ink/ for a CD/DVD.
    I paid $178 + tax.

    Enjoy!

If the cartridges are so expensive, maybe you would like to consider the price prohibitive, and look into refilling the cartridges yourself.
    Hello.

THANK YOU very much for your reply. It is quite encouraging.
From your response it seems like 200+ disks per carts is feasable.
Repacement carts of an off-brand nature do not seem to be readily
available here in Canada. Ordering on-line would require a fair number
of carts to help offset the delivery charges.

Thanks for you suggestions also. I have tried the refill route with passed
printers with less than happy results. ALSO the epson 900 is a 5 color
cartridge. I will have to research this option further.

What a great site. My post numbers do NOT reflect my activity on this
site. The questions get answered in such a timely and accurate fashion
that the majority of my responses would be a simple me too or I agree.
I have been lurking around since the vcdhelp.com days

    Best to all of you

I've been thinking of getting that $100 USD CASIO printer. Sounds like a good solution to me. Not overly expensive with nice clean letter "art".

Full color is nice but then you need the special "printable" discs and all in all the cost just seems too damn much to bother with it all.

Anyways I never heard about the TDK printer that I guess is like the CASIO printer.

Any on-line USA based stores that carry the TDK or CASIO ... I think RIMA.COM has the CASIO last time I looked.

No problem, Often find here in the UK that most of the specialist suppliers of ink carts offer free postage on carts..
    Well worth a look.
Often buy 4 or 5 sets at a time anyway just to make sure i never run out....

  14. Epson R300 has done me very well and would highly recommend it. I did have the EZ-CD Deluxe one for almost a year before I got the Epson R300 and it blows the EZ out of the water (which is just a hacked job Epson anyway) but it was the only choice a year ago for the money.

I would recommend the R300 to anyone, Fast Quiet and reasonable price. I use it only for DVD printing I have another Epson for color printing and HP laser jet so cant comment on the other printing from the printer. You do get a nice set of Flash and memory card readers for camera owners.

Very nice! So what happens if you accidentally print the wrong image to the wrong disk?
    Hello.

  17. Well I would hope anyone burning discs would be smart enough not to do that I use mini-sticky notes by 3m to temporary label them if I dont print them after burning they come right off with no residue or any damage to disc (of course on the printable side not buring side).

Other then that after the burn I just print so no problems. If you do print on wrong disc then I guess you reburn and reprint or just take a sharpy and write the correct name on it (kind looks crappy) but if you worried about the price of screwing up a dvd-r. In my case I would reburn and reprint but hasn't happened yet. 8)

Ohhkay, I guess some people do have $179.00 to throw around for another printer that does nothing but print labels. My Canon does all my printing, even my labels. So even a lowly modern-day warrior such as myself can afford to have videography as a hobby.

Your printout really looks nice, but how does it look if it was misprinted with Sharpie writing on it?
    Hello.

Ummmm... last time I checked, the Epson printers all printed onto PAPER too. But if hub labels work for you, then more power to you, your disks cost less too. For those that want to use a disk printer the R300 is very likely the best "economical" choice to be made. The disks cost more, the ink may even cost more, but some people find that they like the way it looks.

If I hadn't decided to build my own disk printer, I would still use Sharpie.

True, I see it is a regular printer as well. But I already have two printers that work fine, so I will only be buying the Epsom to print labels.

The TDK (I think a CASIO clone) is a great little buy. I couldn't be bothered having to get all the artwork together for printing up full colour, full face disc labels, so the TDK is a good compremise. Anyoen I've shown the finished discs to have been very impressed. It looks best when printed onto a clear silver topped disc.
