When ripping dvd's, is there a speed differance between drives? and if so, which drives are faster? BTW, I have a sony.

Yes, there IS a difference. I have two drives, a Pioneer U303 SCSI 32x/6x DVD-ROM drive, and a Sony DRU500A dual DVD-rewritable drive (I suppose it's 32x/8x). DVDDecrypter shows ripping speeds and the Sony has never gone above 2x on any DVD, while the Pioneer consistently shows between 3x and 5.5x. U can see my PC config on this site. SCSI still rocks, if that's what it is. Too bad no SCSI DVD-writers around (apart from the one Pioneer drive that only accepts authoring media) or DVD-ROM drives for that matter (even from formerly staunch SCSI bastion Plextor).
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".
