I have been just getting warmed up with DVD-r and have been capturing some test files to play with from my AIW tv tuner. The files play (m2v) fine but I am not getting any sound. I have captured in both Nero (ac-3) and MMC (mpa?), same result.

By the way, any way to turn up the audio gain on the AIW card's tuner? I really have to crank up the audio on the computer to hear anything.

    Thanks for the time...

What program were you using, what was the source, and what have you tried so far?
    Hello.

  3. If you have to plug the tuner card into your sound card make sure its plugged into the correct jack. Make sure you selected the correct sound device in the settings. In volume control make sure the settings for volume control and recording control are set correctly.

Yes, I do have to plug the Video card into the Santa Cruz sound card. The sound card settings look pretty good (but what do I know?). That connection is plugged into the sound card's Analog input. In Ulead VS's case, there are 3 audio choices.... default input, secondary record and Digital CD record. Default input seems appropriate. I tried "secondary record" but it made no difference. I am getting sound from the TV tuner when I use it and capture it.... and in confirmation, if I unplug that connection, the TV tuner audio ceases. If I don't get audio on playback, that tells me that maybe it is not getting recorded in the first place. That playback would follow a more internal path (vs. the external video card to sound card cord). I am recording the sound in 48KHz at 256k/mp2. Can the computer natively read mp2 audio? I checked on the file's properties and it seemingly confirms that mp2 audio was recorded.

Honestly, I have a lot of work to do so I am trying to cut down on the learning curve. I am trying out Nero 6 Ultra, Ulead VS 6 and Ulead MSP 6VE. I liked Nero for its ac-3 output but I understand that non DVD standard mpa will play ok too. I also have Vegas 3.0 but haven't gotten around to that yet. The fact that everyone says that Nero unnecessarily renders a 1/2 D1 file before it burns is bothersome but I haven't gotten that far yet.

That's my story. Thanks for your help.

  5. Did you check in Windows Volume Control to see if record volume was turned on and the volume turned up?

Oh yeah, Santa Cruz has its own mixer and everything is on and turned up.

I came up with a weird scenario. I was checking out File Types and found that the mpa (etc) files are called Nero Showtime Files and captures on Nero play their audio. Has Nero hogged access to these file types (hijacked is more like it)??? If so, will just uninstalling Nero fix it??

    Thanks, Larry

  7. My system with on-board sound came with C-Media Mixer and I was having sound capture problems; sound kept muting when I exited the ATI TV program until I went into Windows Volume Control and set it there. Worth checking it worked for me.

Afer a lot of trial and error, it seemed to be the fact that I had other video editor programs installed and they seemed to be in conflict....or, one of them hogged the file types for itself. Maybe MyDVD or Nero6Ultra. I uninstalled them all, clean up the Program Files and registry, reinstalled Ulead VS6 and now it works like it should. Thx
