Last night i downloaded CloneDVD:
When Transcoding with CloneDVD it Transcodes like DVDShrinks Video Analysis Mode but even better quality! and Even Faster! with DVD Shrink it has to do video analysis then transcode the movie which takes over an hour with clonedvd it just transcodes normally as video analysis i could say because the quality is amazing!
Another excellent thing is you have full control on what to leave or strip!
so yes you can leave just the Main movie with the Menu and Chapters!!! DVD Shrink can't do this ive always wanted this feature and CloneDVD does it with a few clicks! so easy!!!
i Backed Up City Slickers just the movie is 6.1 gig! took off the extra audio tracks and subtitles and just left the movie with the menu and chapters! the bar was on 51% compression so that means it had to compress half of the movie!!! it transcoded the movie in 28 minutes! awesome! and the qaulity was amazing! after processing i chucked in a Ritek DVD-R and clicked on Write, it burnt the movie for me, chucked it in my dvd player and the quality was so perfect infact it was going at 9.3 mbps and the original was on 9.8 just look how close you cant even tell! i love it!
It Transcodes with Excellent Quality
It can leave the Main Movie with the Main menu and chapters with out all the extra garbage to maintain video quality! which means you also have full control to add or take off what you like!
And it Can burn the movie for you!
What more do you want!!!
All you need is CloneDVD and AnyDVD
No need to download other crappy software to burn the movie for you as CloneDVD does burn the movie also!
so all im trying to say is goodbye DVDShrink and hello CloneDVD!!!

Admit I have only used DvdShrink so I can not make a comparission other than to say this. DvdShrink has given excellent results and it is FREE. So unless there is another free program that does better than DvdShrink, I will use that
My thanks to the programmer and all who may have contributed to it being available -
I Have done a test on the movie: City Slickers
City Slickers Info:
Movie length 1 hour and 49 minutes
Original Bitrate Mostly 7.8 mbps Average 8.5 mbps Sometimes 9.8 mbps
Movie Without Extras: 6.81 gig
Movie with Extras: 7.10 gig
Done Test with following Applications:
1. CloneDVD
2. DVD Shrink(Deep Analysis)
3. InstantCopy8(High Speed & High Quality Mode)
Here are the results when playing back on my Pioneer DVD Player:
CloneDVD: City Slickers: Created movie with menus and chapters only Mostly 7.1 mbps - Average 8.0 mbps sometimes 9.0 mbps - 9.3 mbps
Took 28 Minutes
DVD Shrink with Deep Analysis Mode: City Slickers: Created movie with Main Movie only Moslty 6.5 mbps Average 7.0 mbps sometimes: 7.5 mbps
Took 51 minutes
Instant Copy 8 High Speed Mode: City Slickers: Created movie with menus and chapters only Mostly 7.1 mbps - Average 7.8 mbps sometimes: 8.8 mbps
Took 1 Hour and 20 minutes
Instant Copy 8 High Quality Mode: City Slickers: Created movie with menus and chapters only Mostly 7.3 mbps - Average 8.1 mbps sometimes: 9.4 mbps
Took 3 Hours
So as you see CloneDVD did the movie so fast and came out with overall excellent results.
DVD Shrink was ok still not good as CloneDVD and also took longer.
Instant Copy 8 in High Speed mode basically the Same as CloneDVD but took way too long whats the point of doing this.
Instant Copy 8 in High Quality mode came out with excellent results but however not much different to CloneDVD and took 3 hours??? way too long and too much cpu and hard drive consumption.
I backup lots and lots of dvd's so i cant be stuffed waiting 3 hours and taking up alot of resources like instant copy 8 does.
So for now i will stick to CloneDVD its the easiest and fastest way to backup dvd's with pretty good quality. However i sometimes may backup very long movies such as Lord of the rings with an actual encoder and not transcoder to maintain highest quality. but not every movie is that big -

DVD Shrink cannot be outperformed on medium to low bitrate sources.
For movies, which are high bit, CloneDVD and DVD2ONE can beat it.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

If you have a DTS track and two other 2 channel audio tracks...you can free up damn near 1 full GB of space for the movie..yet CloneDVD will NOT give you credit for them and instead will compress a movie that does not need compressing or will HEAVILY compress a movie that needs very little compression. I mentioned this most recently in another post and I believe it was "WULF 109" who said it's just "CLONEDVD's" file size meter that is inaccurate. Since that response I've went ahead and tested this out on a few movies using IFOEDIT to simply strip the same stuff I used CLONEDVD to strip..and just like I thought...CloneDVD compresses the video unecessarily.
The last movie I tried this on was Shanghai Noon. Just stripping the main movie and one of the extras would of put me at about 4.35 GB's....so I used IFOEDIT to strip the same things as I did with CLONEDVD....my main movie was something like 4.21 GB's when IFOEDIT was done....absolutely no compression..just stripping all other audio except the 6 channel surround. I did the same in CLONEDVD....and my main movie came out at 3.79 GB's. LOL....So about 450 MB's of video got transcoded for absolutely no reason. I've also tried this with the "newest" version of clonedvd...1.3.11.2 ...and still the same.
It's a shame you have to pay for a proggy like this when the free DVD SHRINK will account for ANYTHING you delete and will NOT transcode if it isn't necessary. And as far as transcoding at 49% goes...try it on an action movie...if you don't see pixelation on most action scenes..then you have a real small T.V ..probably black and white...and/or have terrible vision. -
i backed up conan the destroyer with clone dvd, dvd shrink and instant copy 8 clone dvd bet them all once again showing high bitrate dvd shrink came in next and instant copy 8 came last it was so shit.
clonedvd backed it up to 4.16 gig
dvd shrink to 4.35 gig
and ic8 to 4.28 gig
and still clone dvd bet them in bitrate how good is it
im going to keep testing more and let you'se know. -
This is from some guy that is apart of CloneDVD:
"As mentioned, this is on the way together with additional functionality...
In the meantime, remember that the failure to show a lower video compression rate when audio tracks are dropped is purely cosmetic. The reduction in compression does take place, but the compression bar is not updated to show it. "
Anyway As you should know CloneDVD compresses differently to DVD Shrink so thats why the movie you done with clonedvd came out smaller.
because i done a movie that did not need compression after deselecting the audio tracks with dvd shrink and clone dvd and came out to be the same in size, but when compression is needed clonedvd will output smaller then dvd shrink and i found still it to be better quality, this is a big advantage because you can have menus and more extras with that space -

I suggest anybody who wants to try this out for themselves just take a movie, strip streams with IFOEDIT and look at the file size...write it down if you have to. Do the same thing with CLONEDVD..keeping the same extras unchecked...you're file size WILL be different. On one movie it was only about 50 MB's different because of the extra I checked...but STILL..that's 50 MB's..lol...and as I mentioned..on Shanghai Noon..the main movie with ONLY the ENGLISH 6 CHANNEL surround and English Subs is about 4.21 GB's stripping streams within' IFOEDIT...
however, using CLONEDVD...it output the main movie files as 3.79 GB's. Transcoding well over 400 MB's of that movie for absolutely no reason.I've tried testing DVD SHRINK several times as well because when you do "NO COMPRESSION" the program still says TRANSCODING...so I tested it out with several movies as well..and EVERY TIME DVD SHRINKS output was IDENTICAL to that of IFOEDITS...to the EXACT kb...just like it should be....NO COMPRESSION...video NOT touched.

what im trying to say to you is, if it doesnt need compression it will not compress it, trust me, but keep this thought in mind mate, when it does need compression it compresses differently to other applications.
do this for instance
put a dvd that say is about 4.81 gig which still needs abit of compression but the thing is put one in that has some other audio tracks that can be de-selected and then will not need compression.
do it with dvd shrink main movie only
do the same with clone dvd maim movie only
it will be the exact target size
but make sure that when u de-select the audio tracks that in dvd shrink it will need no compression, now you will know that clonedvd doing the same will not need compression, make sure it is exactly the same and main movie only, now rip and i bet u its exactly the same in size, ive tested it out already on several movies, before asking the author of clone dvd just to make sure. -

Why did CLONEDVD create a main movie set that totalled 3.79 GB's?
I'm doing another movie right now since I have about an hour. -
maybe try the hot fix mate but i done a few movies that did not need compression with dvd shrink and clone dvd and came out to be exact same size man, try it out again and see, maybe you forgot to do a few things

the hotfix doesn't correct the problem either. The issue is still there and CLONEDVD is bugged like I said from the beginning. You have been clearly misinformed or even lied to if you aren't bsng yourself.
All anyone has to do is test out this for themselves...it's not all that difficult to figure out.
And another bug CLONEDVD has is that on the summary screen it shows the NTSC resolution as being 720x576. That's also inaccurate..NTSC is 720x480. That is minor..but it's still a bug regardless. -
i'll tell ya...all these one step proggy's have really attracted a helluva lot of really stupid members to this forum..that's pretty sad. You really gotta be in the elite category of dumb to continue to deny something that can be so easily tested. I mean...it's one thing to be wrong and have the facts be more difficult to find so you can b.s your points for at least a short period of time...but in this case...all anyone has to do is test this out for themselves. I've given two movies with EXACT sizes..but ANY movie that doesn't need compression "AFTER" removing audio tracks will work.
I don't doubt that if a movie doesn't need compression even WITH ALL AUDIO tracks..CLONEDVD would output the correct files without transcoding...but in most cases,..there are many audio tracks, so why would anyone want to use this program and have ANY part of their video transcoded uncessarily
You'd think people who actually use this program would of tested it and not just been bs'd from heresy that it won't compress and it's just cosmetic and the meter and blah blah blah....the fact are that it DOES compress when it shouldn't.
I don't even use the program...except for when zero compression is needed even with all the audio tracks....which is very rare. All the CLONEVD users out there may not want to hear it..but test it for yourselves. I don't even use the program and I tested it..you'd think people that do use it..would actually test it. -
you just take the hard way out, you dont know what your talking about.

you just take the hard way out, you dont know what your talking about.
Oh..another poster already realized CLONEDVD is bugged..so maybe this mystery "author" will realize his program is screwed. The quality also ISN'T any better then DVD2ONE OR DVDSHRINK. It all depends on the movie...CLONEDVD is O.K..but not worth buying when DVDSHRINK is available FREE and WITHOUT those MAJOR flaws. -
I've used both newest version of clonedvd and dvd shrink 3 beta 5. DVD shrink 3 beta 5 will copy more movies than the newest version of clonedvd without any problems. Most notible is the audio drop outs and movie freezing. At least on my machine. DVD shrink 3 beta 5 is the way to go.

you just take the hard way out, you dont know what your talking about
Defense is exactly right. These 1 steppers definitely have made it easy for the average Joe Bob, but no one wants to settle for bugs when a program like DVDShrink 3.0 does such a great and flawless job for $FREE$ !.
I'll stay away from CloneDVD. I get rid of the menus, don't want them! And I can't settle for dropouts, freezes, unnecessary compression, etc as reported by various Clone DVD users. -
are you my english teacher or something.
all i can say is clonedvd kills dvd shrink
dvd shrink is a piece of shit ofcourse, ive used it so many times its so gay because its free and have fun as there will not be anymore updates for the piece of shit software where clonedvd always listens and puts the latest and best shit in to the program so suck my **** you ****** hahahahahahaha
