I sincerely apologize if this issue has been addressed already elsewhere, but I was not able to find an answer to my problems using the search tool for these forums.
I've got an Optorite DD0201 that is able to read at least one commercially made CD I've tried, but both burned DVD+R's I've tried (one Memorex, one TDK) have not worked. When I try to explore the disc in "My Computer," most recently it acts as if there is no disc - says "Please insert a disc into drive F." Once or twice before, I got the error "Incorrect function." But it seems to have stopped that and started pretending there's no disc. Both discs that aren't working were burned on a memorex dual format burner, and they were playable on that drive but apparently not on the Optorite right now.
We did at one time have lots of burning programs installed, including Nero, Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, B's Gold5, and a few others. The computer is running Win2k and has one other media drive, a CD-RW drive. I don't know if any of this is relevant but I figure I'll just give you as much information as I can right now (not currently at that computer).
I'm at a loss for what to try next, because I think the Optorite drive is supposed to be able to read these discs - we've just messed the computer up somehow. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I still need help, and it's been like 2 weeks now with no response...

Ok, at another forum I read that unless the drive specifically says it can read DVD+Rs, it will not be able to read it. Does this apply even if it burns DVD+Rs? It seems like it would be pretty silly for a drive to be able to burn DVD+Rs but not read them.

Update: I have successfully read a data DVD+R with the OptoRite drive - and this disc was burned on the same Memorex drive as the other two that I am having problems with. So it seems that the problem may be in the way I burned the discs; the two that aren't working are movie discs, not data discs.
But I'm not sure what factors affect the playability of a movie disc... Help? -
Sound like your Optorite drive hardware failure. While there no perfect dvd burner exist yet I would never buy Chinese/ Taiwanese brand due to very weak quality control (more chances to get a lemon) and bad product development. Next time spend a little more and get something better.

ymmy, have you ever seen any CD/DVD-R/RW drive that was made somewhere else? Is quality of a few drives made in Philippines or Malaysia better than Chinese or Taiwanese? As far as brand goes, Optorite DVD burners have been designed by Japanese Sanyo.
I own Optorite DD0203 for over four months now that was assembled in China. This burner never gave me any headaches, never made coasters by its own mistake, and never failed firmware upgrades. I guess I've been lucky, but I don't see why my burner's design or assembly quality is worse than any other Chinese or Taiwanese made Sony or Pioneer DVD burner.
erasure, I think you just had bad luck when you purchased Optorite as you can have bad luck even with Japanese made Sony or German BMW. You should try to send the drive to Optorite for replacement.
I would gladly buy a computer component that was made in the US, Japan or Western European country, other than screws and washers for mounting a motherboard to the chassis. I just can't find one anymore.
