  1. Hi,

Can someone please post a detailed instruction on how to use FourCC Code Changer? I read all the posts that say "just change it" -- but I'd really appreciate an example of exactly change from what to what... The readme file from the software didn't explain either.

    Thanks in advance...

    1) Launch the Program
    2) Open the offending AVI
    3) Change the offending header ( usually to divx/divx )
    4) Hit the button

    Your done!

Your basically changing a header to say something different, that's all.

  3. Hi Gazorgan, thanks for the reply!

For example, if I open a file, and the FourCC Description Code says "DIVX", and the FourCC Used Codec says "DX50", which field am I supposed to change? Are both fields suppose to match? I don't know if I've installed my codecs correctly; but the Description Code field has only the options of mp41, mp42, mp43 and DIV4 to choose; and the Codec Used field has MP41, MP42, MP43 and DIV3. Am I supposed to use those choices, or hand-type in something entirely different? I guess these are where the confusions come from.

Hand-typing in both fields to divx/divx results in Windows Media Player 6.4 to give error 80040200, Unable to download an appropriate decompressor, when trying to play the file.

    Thanks again,

Ya both fields should match. If you change the fourcc then the file will be played with a different codec. BUT you must have that codec installed on your system or the file will not play.

DX50 is DivX 5.0 . However, it may not be registered in your system. Alternately it's mis-registered. Most AVI's will 'play better' with the settings of divx/divx . This is especially true of XviD.

Test it, it's easy, just remember the orignal header. This single program let's me convert virtually anything without issues (or gets them to play!!!) All MPEG4's are basically the same (DivX/XviD). Having FFDShow installed helps also.
