rca lyra/ mpeg4 question

recently i got the lyra (portable mp3 and mpeg4 player)
however when i encode movies (example dogma, chasing amy)
the sound skips and is off sync with the video
the weird thing is that stuff like south park seems to work fine
im useing "dvd to vcd avi divx converter"
which i purchased
but now the sound thing is f'ing up and i dont know what to use
i use the xvid mpeg-4 codec and ive tryed multiple others
no matter what i do i cant get it to work
i use dvd-decrypter to put it in .vob's and then to mpeg4 with
dvd to vcd avi divx converter
what codec should i use and is there any better software that will fit my needs
