  1. Hello,

I have searched this forum before posting this question, but couldn't find any thing I am looking for.

I have recently bought the Plextor PX-708A drive.I don't have any problem with it. I am concerned with the write speeds.

I have a Intel 3.0 GHZ processor with INTEL 865G chipset motherboard and running WIN XP PRO.I tried to enable DMA but was not successful as I don't see the Advanced setting tab. In one of the sticky topics it is mentioned that I can Intel Application Accelerator for enabling the DMA. However when I look at Intel' site INTEL 865G is not listed as a supported Chipset for the application accelerator.

Now here are some statistics I have from My burning.

I am using Decrypter for ripping the DVD's. Usually this takes about 15- 20 minutes. Is this normal?

I am using pinnacle Instant copy for burning the DVD's. This takes about 60-75 minutes. Is this normal?

I am using Khypermedia DVD+R discs for burning. The specs on it is 1x-2.4x data 4.7 GB video 120 min

I have seen threads which mention that they were able to burn the DVD'S in less than 8 mins. So I would really appreciate if someone can help me speed up my burning.

Thanks a lot and I apolozise if this is a repost. I searched before posting.

    Thanks

    Z

You are using the wrong media for 8x speed. You need to use 8x speed rated dvd+r discs or approved 4x speed rated discs to get 8x speed. Check Plextor's website for approved 4x media that will write at 8x.

Your burning speed is below 1x. You are stuck in PIO mode. You can't burn any faster until you get the DMA issue resolved. Try making your DVDRW drive the secondary master, with no other drive on that cable. Delete teh controller in computer manager and reboot, it should autodetect.

The settings are on the advanced tab for the IDE controller, not the DVD burner.

They're there. They're there for every supported chipset under Windows XP. If they aren't there then you have SERIOUS configuration issues.
