  1. I have an avi file and with virtual dub (and the avert lee subtitle filter) I add permanent subtitles to my movie. The movie is in 16:9 format, but the subtitles is still shown in the picture.

Is it possible to move them down so the subtitles appear on the black bar in the bottom of the picture?

If you add resize filter first (and letterbox to the correct aspect ratio), and then add the subs filter, the subs will be (at least partly) in the black bottom border.

Great! Hope it works. Getting stuff in the right proportions may be very complex, with various resolutions, DAR and stuff...

It all depends on the w/h of the AVI, and if you want to do anamorphic, 4:3 or 16:9 output. Usually I just weat my finger, put it in the air, and make an educated guess!
(Hmmm - they look a little squashed now, but when I set the telly at 16:9, I think they will look about right - let's try that!) It usually works. I've seen much worse resizing on national TV in every case so far...
