4hr encoding?? sound and picture out of sync

help!!!
playing movies on my computer is fine, sound and picture are in sync, but when i burn the vcd, put it in my dvd player, the picture sort of skips and the sound isn't in time with the picture. i use nero 5 to burn my disks and after i clicked burn, i think it was encoding the file, it toook 4hrs!!! is this normal

Nero is for burning disks. It's not an encoder. Yes it can encode and you see the results?

Go spend some time off school and read the guides to avoid crappy video.
