I need some expert help here... Here's my situation:
I have an LG dual format burner, GSA-4040BI. I was trying to make a backup copy of Bad Boys 2 this weekend. I was using Sony DVD+R media. I know that the movie was too large to fit on 1 disk, so i used DVDShrink to shrink it. When I used the shrink program, I selected "Still Pictures" for anything that I did not want included. Even with that, the "Main" part of the movie was still over 5GB. So, the next thing I did was selected the options to use the "encryption" that DVDShrink offers. I was able to get everything I wanted under 4.7GB by encrypting different pieces at different levels. I then used Nero 6 (Nero Express) to burn a data DVD. I sent the files that DVDShrink saved to my hd to the root of the dvd. It said it burned successfully. Since I burned it, NOTHING will read the disk, including the drive I wrote it in. To troubleshoot, I tried to read the DVDShrink files saved to the hard drive with a media player and it worked fine. So, I tried it again using the DVD Movie creation part of Nero. What this basically did was create 2 dir's on the root of the dvd called VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. So, I used this and put my dvd file into the VIDEO_TS dir. This produced the same result. I started to try it one more time, but stopped the burn right when it started to read the source files. Now, my last DVD+R is unusable because it says the disk is not empty.
I am confused!!

and another thing, if u want to make the whole process ten times easier just download Clone DVD 4 and ANYDVD 4.3.2.1.1 and run anydvd in the background and use clone to copy the dvd, does all the compression shit fr you and can still pick what u want and wat u dont, believe me, i used to use shrink and all tat other shit there for copying, takes to much time and is a pain in the ass, try those above....
www.slysoft.com download them there....try em out hollaa -
So, I should run anydvd in the background and use clonedvd to make the copy? Does clonedvd automatically shrink the files to fit AND burn it to the disk or what?
I have a question about dvdshrink. I noticed that some of you talk about the re-author function in dvdshrink. I did not use it. I just told it to open the disk or files and then I couls select the compression or set it to"still picture" which set it to minimal size. I am a bit confused.
BTW, I did set Nero to "create DVD" one time. All it did was create those TS dir's on the root of the disk. So, I directed the source DVD files to burn into the VIDEO_TS folder. -
The DATA DVD you first burned with Nero Express will not work.
The 2nd attempt should have worked assuming you only dragged the group of "files" originally created by Shrink to the VIDEO_TS directory that NERO made when used in DVD/MOVIE mode.
If you do not need any of the menus and extras and as far as me, I take them out by re authoring the movie in shrink. I delete all un needed sound tracks and subs and if I am in the green zone I go ahead and back up. If I am still in the red zone. I adjust the slider to bring me into the green. If I had to compress more tham half way, I do the backing up to include deep analisys. This will take twice as long but will better determine the variabilty of the bit rate asigned to various portions of the film. Slow action areas do not need as high a bit rate and fast action sections will of course require a higher rate to prevent artifacts ( Macroblocking or some erroneously call it " Pixelation" )
Open Nero Burn ( Not Express ) and chose DVD/MOVIE as your burning choice in the wizard. Locate the files the Shrink created and drag them inside the VIDEO-TS folder. DO not drag a folder with the files in it, just the files themselves. Click on burn and wait. If this still does not work then you might have a media or hardware problem but to tell you the truth, I've run the gamut with media from generic to top brand names 1 to 4 x and have never encountered any problems with burning or playback.
I wonder why some people seem to have so many problems creating a working DVD backup as it is really too simple for words. No wonder the movie industry is scared to death.
Maybe I am just lucky but I think out the couple of 100s of my movies I've backed up, I had only one that gave me a read error in Shrink. I was using an external DVD-+/RW at the time. I used my internal drive, a very good and stable DVD/RAM 1x drive and it backed up perfectly well.No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -

Try this:
Re-Author mode. Drag the main movie only into the new window. Uncheck the subtitles and Audio you don't want. Trim the credits with the start/End button. If you % is under 90, then use deep analysis when you hit the backup button.
That's all there is to it.
When burning with Nero (not express) drag all the files that shrink created into the VIDEO_TS folder. Hit the burn button. Get a few RW's to learn on.....
That's it, it's a very simple process. Much simpler than making a VCD or SVCD or converting an AVI.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
