Never used Kavi2svcd, but it seems like transcode is just fed with a directory name instead of a AVI file name.
avi open error: avilib - Error reading from AVI file
|E| REASON: Is a directory

I've had problems of late with the transcode part of kavi2svcd. I tried the encoding of avidemux. Its work more often and is much much faster.

Yes, AviDemux 2 rocks - It's very much like VirtualDub, but can reencode directly to VCD/SVCD/DVD with nice filters (resize, subtitler etc).
