A few weeks ago internet explorer started opening when I start up. How can I stop this? I have removed it from the start menu, done a virus/spyware check, and looked at everything.
I run Win 2k pro. I can't recall if I did anything to trigger this off.

Check your Systray to see if you have AIM or Messenger running, as well as weather updater or atomic clock, etc. Any program that's memory resident or relies on the Net for updated info will want to automatically connect (believe me, I have a mother-in-law who LOVES to download stuff, and I've come across it many times).

start - run - type 'MSCONFIG' - click start up tab - uncheck all your Interent explorer and other programs you don't want

Thanks, I have a 'symm time" clock running, but that seems to be okay as it's been there for ever.

I have typed MSCONFIG in run, and it can't find the file.

Sounds like you may have a missing or corrupted registry entry. You may find the solution here:

I'll have a look on a map and see if I can find that place I'm in the capital myself and we don't venture too far from civilisation I've got a mate who's currently working in Sydney, the b@stard's having Xmas dinner on the beach this year.
