  1. does anyone use this card under linux? i have gentoo linux 2.4.20-gaming-r6 sources. i configured my kernel and installed v4l and bttv as modules, but i get an error everytime i try modprobe bttv:
    Code:
    root@mymachine john # modprobe bttv
    /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r6/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
    /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r6/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r6/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o failed
    /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r6/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed
    also, i do an 'lspci':
    Code:
02:08.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01)
am i installing the wrong driver? i would like to start using this card in linux since i cannot boot to winxp at the moment. thanks

The bttv driver is for BT8x8 chipset based cards. According to ispci, your card is based on the SAA7130 chipset. I belive this chipset may be supported only in the newer v4l2 API. Take a look at the video4linux HQ SAA7130 page. Also make sure you read the build v4l2 drivers mini howto before you begin.

I have just bought one of these and I'm having similar problems. AverMedia told me directly some info: EZMaker (standard version) uses BT878 for which there are numerous modules/drivers available. EZMaker Gold (the version I have) uses the SA7130 Chipset (7134?). Everything I've read on the internet suggests that you need 2.4.23 Kernel and to update v4l2, apply patches and install a SA7134 module.

However - I've just done a fresh SuSE 8.2 install (2.4.21 I think) and the card seems to work on XawTV, etc. without need to recompile a new Kernel. I've no idea what is wrong because everything I've seen on the net so far says it shouldn't work. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something here?
