Most utilities tell you during the rip what speed they're going at, eg SmartRipper, DVD Decryptor.

if u want some really good info on ur dvd-rom then get a program called dvdinfopro, it rulez

Yeah, DVD Info pro tells you a lot about the drive but it doesn'ttell you how fast it will rip at. Says nothing at all about that for my LG 4040B...

I guess ripping-speed is about the same as read-speed, you can do a read-test with DVD Info pro and determine the rip/read-speed of the drive.

nero infotool, free, small gives you tons of info you can download it at:

download a ripping tool and rip a dvd. If your drive is locked it will stay between 2x-3x or less.

The LG 4040B built in September 2003 gives me a max rip speed of 7.6X but a maximum read speed of 12X. These were on non copy protected discs...
