  2. You can't have Dts or Ac3 audio on a VCD, it is not supported. There may be the odd DVD player that would correctly play such a beast if you could make it, but I doubt it would be many.

There are plenty of ways of extracting the Ac3 from the Avi and converting it to other formats, usually uncompressed wav first which you then use as the audio source when you encode the VCD so the audio gets converted to VCD standard mp2 format. Take a look in the convert guides for details. I am not familiar with doing the same for DTS, though it is probably possible.

  3. but what if i was interested in creating such a beast?
how would that work? just encode divx>vcd with tmpgenc and try it on my standalone?

  4. Not quite. You would have to extract the audioo from the avi to a seperate file. Then Encode video only in TmpGenc, then multiplex the two together with TmpGenc mpeg tools. This is certainly possible for Ac3, not sure about DTS.

  5. i tried multiplexing the encoded video and the ac3 audio file with tmpgenc but it didnt work out. when i tried choosing the ac3 as the audio input an 'Illegal MPEG audiostream' error popped up. what should i do? i'm really interested in making a vcd+ac3 and trying it on my standalone. any help would be greatly appreciated.

This can certainly be done with mpeg-2, never actually tried it with mpeg-1. Have you tried running the AC3 through ac3fix.exe first? If that doesn't sort it I am out of ideas.
