Question regarding playing an NTSC tape on a TV set

Hi I'm new and I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope here is OK!

I have a vcr which will play ntsc tapes providing that my tv set is "compatible with a 60Hz vertical frequency". I have no idea what this means! In the manual for my tv set, I can't find any details of a vertical frequency. The only thing that looked relevant was in power source it said 220 -240V 50Hz A.C.

As you can tell, I'm not very good at technical stuff. I'm in the UK but I really want to buy a particular vhs tape from the States so I'm hoping you guys can solve my problem so I can watch it!

Don't know if it'll be of any help to you but my VCR is an ALBA Model 6001SIL and my TV set is a Panasonic TX - 14S3T.

Well, go into the the market and look for a multisystem, or a NTSC TV. if you get the NTSC TV, it will not play your PAL VCR tapes. However, if you get a multisystem TV, it will play yopur European and American VCRs.

Some PAL VHS VCR units will play back NTSC VHS and convert it to what is called PAL 60

This is not true PAL but a trick that works IF your VCR and TV support it. Apparently your VCR does but I don't know about your TV. See if it mentions anything in the TV manual about PAL 60

There's a bit about receiving systems where it says PAL I then underneath that it says PAL 525/60. The thing is, the specifications refer to a few different models. My model is on the right hand side of the table. The stuff about receiving systems on the left hand side but there is no dividing line signafying that it only relates to the other model so I presume it relates to both. Sorry if thats totally confused you!

Then you shouldn't have a problem watching a NTSC VHS video.
