  1. currently i'm using 128kBps to squeeze out as much of the video bitrate as i can (i've read you shouldn't go lower), but i've also read to preserve Dolby Prologic information, a minimum of 192kbps is recommended. now i have no idea how to check if the source file has this particular information (anybody know how???), but is there really much of a difference that you can hear? i don't seem to hear anything different when i encoded at 224kBps vs 128kBps. maybe only if you're running a home theatre system? i just watch my VCDs on a regular tv set with it's own speakers.

I experimented a lot with this when I did make VCD's and I found that anything more than 128KBps was OK and was worthwile for extra capacity when making non standard VCD's i.e. fitting a whole 100 minutes video onto one CD . From my own experience I never noticed any deterioration in pro logic information (used the VCD with my normal Dolby Speaker System) at this bitrate , there still appeared to be the same extra surround information .
