  1. Hi,

I have used both programs with good results and like both programs. However, I have noted that the quality of the dvd's done by dvd2one is better then dvd shrink. Also, I have always got better results using constant compression ratio with dvd2one.
Has anyone else had better quality with dvd2one then dvd shrink or am I doing something wrong.

  2. Hi.
Same for me. I have used both programs but got better results using constant compression ratio with dvd2one. And dvd2one is faster.

I tried DVD2One earlier and liked it and registered it. Then DVDShrink improved greately (early versions didn't do good compression).

I think that the latest beta version (3.Beta5) is more or less comparable to DVD2One in terms of quality.

I am using both, depending on what I do.

If I just want to make a movie only DVD, then I use DVD2One because it's faster. If I want to keep some menus and extras, I take it through DVDShrink without compression on the movie and extras I want to keep (or may add a slight ~90% compression to the extras) and make unwanted material frames only. Then I use DVD2One to make the final disk.

However, as I said, the latest version of DVDShrink is quite good so I guess the DVD2One step may be redundant.

The good thing about DVDShrink is also that you can select which audio tracks to remove for each program stream individually. Same applies to subpictures. And because you can select different compression factors by movie, you can achieve a much better result with DVDShrink with just a little extra effort.

Of course, it is much slower than DVD2One.

Another option is - if you have Nero 6 - to use NeroVision2. It works very similar to DVDShrink and my first impression is that it is much better and much faster than both other programs.

I suggest you try that as well.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  5. "SaSi" I also found that NERO RECODE was better then DVD2ONE but not as good as IC8. I find DVDshrink with ANYDVD is the best when coping picky DVD's like disney. I just back the hole DVD and work's ever time.

"SaSi" just to let you know I pick up the Star Trek cartoon's on Laser Disc on ebay got my set for $50.00 dollar's great deal if your a a fan of the show going to capture them to DVD soon.

    Nope.
    I've had the opposite.

I use both methods, depending upon what I'm trying to do, but I've found that on simple movie-only backups.... DVD2One is a little faster and produces a little better quality compression than DVD Shrink. If I wish to copy the entire disc, menus and all, I tend to use DVD Shrink. DVD2One will work on entire disc copies, but I like the ability to look at the whole directory tree in Shrink.

However, I always use DVD Decrypter, since DVD Shrink is often picky about what it'll rip.

I also like the quality of DVD2ONE over DVD Shrink. Not only is the quality better, but it's faster. So it's normally an easy pick for me. If I want to keep certain menus, then i'll just use Instant Copy.

  9. Suggestion to DVD2one users:

If you haven't already done so, make a backup of the Matrix Reloaded, both with DVD2One and DVD Shrink v3.0b5 (with deep analysis).
Then, compare the scene where Trinity makes her first phone call (just after the first fight sequence).

If your eyesight or viewing equipment doesn't show a huge difference in favor of DVD Shrink, I'd suggest you slow the sequence down.

  10. i backed up a dvd recently (can't recall which). i just wanted the movie so i ran the movie thru DVD2One 1.30 from the files i ripped onto my HDD. the resultant fileset was 3.84G. i thought that was rather small, for the movie-only titileset on the dvd was about 5.0G by itself.
so as a test i re-authored the movie thru Shrink w_DA, picking only the main movie, the AC3-6ch sound track, and nothing else (just as i did with DVD2One). i forget what the compression ratio was for the movie but the resultant fileset was a full disc... 4.35G
i only wish i had saved the DVD2One fileset so i could compare the quality of that 3.84G movie with the 4.35 I simply tossed the 3.84 since the Shrink transcoded main movie, all things being equal, would have a higher bitrate.

  11. after experimenting with both (Dvd Shrink & DVD2one) and watching the results on a projector screen (120+ inches) i can say that DVD Shrink delivers best quallity overall. Also i like the option to boost the quallity even more by cutting credits and use diferent compress ratio for portions of the film or for extras.
    cheers!
