Is there a difference in sound quality that different players produce or am I crazy? I bought a Yamaha 5650 a few weeks ago but ended up taking it back because the picture it produced was dark and lacking details. My problem is that I can't find another player that has the same sound quality that it did. I know that I'm not imagining it. It was like night and day. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is there something I can look for before I "audition" another player? I know that most people don't buy dvd players for the sound qualities but I'm at a total loss. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

There sure is. Audio played trough the analogue outs of my cheap Finlux DVD510 (http://forward.to/finlux510) sounds like it's coming from ten year old tapes. However, if i play trough the digital out (thereby using the receivers DAC instead of the players DAC), quality is up to par with other dedicated CD-players i have. So there can be a difference in quality, the quality of the D/A Convertor for one can be of influcence.
