  1. my TMPGENC settings have been set according "The newbies guide to fitting a movie on one CD using TMPGENC". i've encoded a couple of movies so far and burned them as VCD with Nero without any problems onto 1 CD using Constant bitrate (CBR). now i would like to make the quality a little better using 2-pass VBR, but still making a 1-disc VCD. i also set the motion search precision to High quality (slow). in the project wizard (4/5) bitrate setting page, i made sure i selected CD-R 80min as the media and set it to make file size 100% of disc capacity as usual. estimated file size was 786.46MB. looks good so i go ahead and let it encode. now 9 hours later i find out the encoded file is 977MB
argh!!! i thought maybe i overlooked something cuz i kinda rushed thru it the first time, so i carefully looked over all the settings and tried it again using 2-pass VBR. 9 hours later, i have another file also 977MB
what am i doing wrong here?!?!?

Most of burn DVD's. CD is low quality as it is. Especially squeezing it on just one disc. So no.

I make 1 disk VCD's using VBR for my kids shows.

    2 suggestions:

    - Under the system tab make sure it's set it to mpeg-1 video CD (non-standard).

    - There was a version of TMPGEnc that had a bug which always created VCD's at the default 1150 bitrate no matter the settings, ver 2.51 maybe? Try a different version of TMPGEnc.

  7. ok this is really wierd...i encoded in CBR and i got a 977MB file again. the only diff is that i recently installed TMPGENC Plus version 2.59.47.155 and i'm using it for the first time. i used to encode with the previous 2.58.44.152 version without any problems. has anyone heard of bugs with 2.59?

  10. Why would anyone want to put a whole movie on 1 cd. The quality would be so blurry and generic. A 60 minute MPEG2 movie at good quality wouldn't run below 500mb..you would have to stray away from compliance and strip it everywhere you could and hope your standalone would play it properly. If you were already successful at doing this then just type --DID IT DUMBASS -- below my response. ;D

We find it perfectly acceptable for animated movies, similar to VHS. D.I.D.A.

  12. Hyena,

I typically put up to 80 minutes of SVCD on a CD /w DVD2SVCD, CCE and D2SRoba for TV viewing. This great for the kids cartoons/movies and produces quality akin to high quality VHS tapes. You'd be surprised how much a TV will not show in the way of anamolies that a PC screen will.

In fact I transferred 2 hrs of my VeggieTales tapes to 1 CD Disc using the KVCD One Disc DVD template and TMPGenc. It is actually not too bad. Not something I would do for me, but it's just fine for the less discerning youngster that only needs VHS cartoon quality.

One of my girls is only 4 years old and while she knows how to work her (yes, her) DVD player (open the drawer, insert the disc and press play), she does not understand the concept of Part1 and Part2. This allows her to pick out her movie (thanks to graphic CD labels) and watch it without playing it in the wrong order or misplacing a part of the movie.

An added benefit is Mom and Dad get quality time w/o having to change the CD after 30-45 minutes. Invaluable when the wife gets a little amourous !!!!

Search for the KVCD templates and try it. I just adjust the audio to 128kbps (joint stereo) and the Video BIT RATE until I achieve 85-90% of my CD capacity (leaving 10% fudge factor). I have not really missed the size limit of 800MB, yet.

Keep in mind that the only way to typically do 1 movie on a CD is to deviate from the VCD/SVCD standards usually by altering the Audio/Video bitrate and/or resolution. Test on your DVD player prior to comitting to a format or method.

I accidently encoded a 90 min [I don't remember the exact length but it was a full movie] movie ... into a bin file using DVD2SVCD. I looked at the mpg version in the "Movies" folder in DVD2SVCD.

    I used 4 Pass ... CCE encoded

The quality wasn't too bad ... I should have kept it ... but I deleted it.
