instalation problems

Sorry if youv'e seen this post in another section I've still got my forum L plates on
Im totally flumuxed I have fitted a new Pioneer 106a it's recognised by the machine (bios and windows) When I put a blank in it fires up media player and tells me it's a 1.9 g audio disk. A blank in the other dvd drive on the machine doesn't. A video dvd in the pioneer plays ok using powerdvd? 106 is slave off other dvdMachine is amd 2.2 gforce 4 440 vid. 512 memory asrock mother board. The OS is win 98 se. The drive has been back to the supply who says it's fine and he has sent some samples he burnt with it.
