My pos nec-1100a died on me and i need to get a new burner. ive heard good things about the pioneer a06 and would like to know if they are the best drive for the money or if there is a better drive.

Yes that is an excellent drice, but you can find it for around $120 or get the nec 1300 for around $100

The Pioneer was recommended to me by a number of people. I have been very pleased with it.

Nec 1300A and This one seem to be the ones the tech guys here talk about because the NEC1300A is very hackable and cheap!
I got the Pioneer a06 for reliabiablity and media compatiablity.
Higher in price gets you a little better speeds but at this point DVD-r in 15 minutes is fast considering it's 5megs per second recording 4x speed .... about the speed of cd-r 48x burner.
