I've just installed Smart Ripper to rip a particularly difficult DVD which DVD Decrypter is having problems with. My problem is a fairly basic one. I can see from screen shots in guides that there's supposed to be a big fat START button in the lower left hand corner below SETTINGS. I don't get the START button showing at all.

It's kinda difficult to rip a DVD without a START button. Any ideas?

  2. I think you first need to select the files to rip (I always select all of them) then you need to point the program to the folder you want to rip the files to, and after doing that the start button should be there.

Yep I just checked it out and if you have no files selected the start button goes away.

Okay thanks. I see what you mean now. I have managed to get the START button to show when I select the "extras" part of the DVD but it still won't show for the main movie part no matter what I do on this particular DVD I want to rip.

Anyway, because of this I've decided the program is crap, so I'm going back to try and get it to work in DVD Decrypter instead again. At least DVD Decrypter can see and read the main movie part.

    Cheers.

  4. SmartRipper works just fine. Just select the files TAB then click on the "select All" button. Also make sure in "settings" you have VOB file access set to "auto".

Thanks but it doesn't work for this particular disc I have right here. It also won't correctly extract 24bit PCM audio from a DVD either - which is the difficult thing I really am looking to do. DVD Decrypter won't do it either, but at least DVD Decrypter has a support forum where you can ask the author to add the feature to future versions. I am hopeful that DVD Decrypter will become the first to be able to rip 24bit PCM audio from a DVD.

What DVD has 24bit PCM audio ? By saying that it doesn't work do you mean that it won't rip properly and if so what error do you get ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Please read these two posts in the DVDRHelp forum. They describe perfectly what I am experiencing.

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=166719&highlight=pcm

In addition to those posts, you may wish to read my request to the author of DVD Decrypter for this feature to be added to his program...

...though you will probably have to register to the DVD Decrypter support forum to be able to read that thread.

The DVD that I have with 24bit PCM audio on it is 'James Taylor Live At The Beacon Theatre" in PAL by SMV Enterprises catalogue number 50171-9 and purchased in Australia

I appear to have had some success with the author of DVD Decrypter for adding the support of 24bit PCM audio ripping. He has added the feature to version 3.1.8.0 of the program which is to be released shortly apparently.

  10. i think i've managed to figure out the problem here - i had the same thing, smartripper doesnt automatically set a destination for the vobs to be saved - choose a folder and filename, then the start button will crop up

i hope thats what was going wrong, it was for me! haha
