  1. I have a 720x576 (4:3) PAL mpeg and I would like to convert it to a VCD.

What settings would I need both in VirtualDub(resize) & TMPGEnc to keep its original width.

I read & read & tried with some success, but not what I wanted (borders on all sides)

(audio & fps is figured out)

Do you mean a PAL Svcd or NTSC.

Anyway, it shouldn't really matter, just use TmpGenc (no need for vdub) and set video arrange method to Full screen (keep aspect ratio) and set Aspect ratio to 4:3 Display. That should work.

Oh, and preview the output in a proper software DVD player like pwoerDVD, not WMP as it usually ignores the DAR setting.

  3. PAL DVD -> DVD2AVI -> TMPGEnc

@bugster I am currently encoding my d2v file from DVD2AVI using TMPGEnc along with the unlock template. Can I use the full screen (keep aspect) right now to encode to VCD.

I could work that bit out, but what is your intended destination, I know its VCD but do you want Pal or NTSC.

Anyway, whatever you are trying to do, the settings I have given should be correct as far as Aspect ratios go.

  7. My settings:

    TEMPLATE - VideoCD (NTSC).mcf
    ASPECT RATIO - 4:3 525 line NTSC
SOURCE ASPECT RATIO - 4:3 display
VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD - Center(keep aspect ratio)

...its cutting off the width & height(playback in powerDVD). I would like to keep width. Help is appreciated.

You can't. VCD is roughly 1/4 the area of full DVD. Try SVCD it's much higher resolution.

Alternately, try a different arrangement method, TMPG has to do some cutting to get the right display resolution for PAL->NTSC conversion.

  9. You need the folowing:

On the Video tab of settings
Aspect Ratio 4:3 display (VCD does not support anything else)
On the Advanced tab of settings
Source aspect ratio 4:3 625 line (PAL)
Video arrange method - Full screen (keep aspect ratio) (may want to try keep aspect ratio 2)
