  1. Well i ripped the entire Aliens movie from its original DVD. I own the quadrilogy, and am backing this stuff up. I used the backup method and it ripped to around 7.4gb. I then used dvd shrink but it wants to compress to 54% which should be awful Any ideas of settings or other progs to get the best possible burn??> How do people backup like LOTR TT on one disc with it looking really good.

I mean also is there away to just keep one of the movies version instead of both special edition and standard

I backed up special edition only with menu on CLONE DVD. No problems!
    Great program!

  3. I backed up the special edition, without the menu, using DVD Shrink. If you click on reauthor it splits the two versions of the movie, original and special. I also removed some of the end credits, so I wouldn't have to compress, at all.

You obviously haven't used DVDShrink before. 54% will be fine.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I would recommend backing up the entire 7.4 GB, keeping absolutely everything except for some audio streams. If you are never going to listen to it in dutch, remove it ! (my apologies to our dutch friends)

No mess, no fuss.....full backup - remove unwanted audio streams, deep analysis and job is right.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  10. FOR EVERYONE LOOKING TO BACKUP ANY OF THE ALIEN SE DISCS!

They DVD company was very smart when it came to these discs. They did not include the movie twice, but instead just modified the Theatrical version with the new scenes. Basicly, thr SE version uses everything from the theatre version but just adds a few chapters. This means you cant really only incude the SE version, cause it contains the Theatrical version also. Hope this helps

  11. Thats what i was saying. I thought when i looked at the disc that they just kept the theatrical movie and had the extra scenes on the disc somewhere that would be implemented when SE was chosen

  12. Might as well pipe in here. Even though it seems you're discussing Aliens, I can relate the process I went through to successfully back up disc 1 of Alien.

In short, I was able to back up the entire disc, less the THX test thingy and DTS stream and subtitles.

In long, the menus weren't compressed at all--hey, I like them--and the movie DVDShrink'd to 78%. I can't say I've done a side by side comparison between shrunk vs. original, but I don't think the video degradation is very obvious.

I used DVDStripper (w/DVD Decryptor and Ifoedit) to remove every unnecessary thing--FBI warning, intro logos, intro to Director's Cut by Ridley, menu items related to the Theatrical Release, THX test, etc. Used Menuedit to alter/fix the menu buttons, then DVDShrink to remove unwanted audio and subs and to transcode the movie.

Hello. Been reading a lot of these posts about Alien AND Aliens. I just wanted the SE version, NOT the theatrical release, but it seems like I cant do it with DVD Shrink & DVD Decryptor.

How can I use DVDShrink & Decryptor to just pull off the SE Release (5.1 is all I need) and not have it compress it SO MUCH (I think around 50%). I want just the 1 version, but not sure if this is possible.

ALSO, wondering how I can compress a movie like "Dances With Wolves" which has the movie split into SIDE 1 (2hours) and SIDE 2 (1 hour) on the same disc... can I compress them and put them BOTH on the same blank DVD or do I have to use 2 seperate discs???

    Thanks

Yeah, just use DVDShrink, cut out all the garbage like titles and whatnot, keep the video and 5.1 audio, and it should get you a decent compression ratio. This movie is somewhat long, like 2 1/2 hours, and I've copied it, but I don't think I was able to get below atleast 25% with this one.

P.S. And as for backing up LOTR onto 1 disc, I've never done it, I use 2, for the extended version anyways, because, who would want the normal version when you get like 40min. of extra good stuff!
