  1. I have a DVD-player that plays VCDs burned on CD-RW disks; however, if I try to erase or format/CD-RW disk using Nero, and then try to burn a new VCD onto the CD-RW, my DVD player doesn't recognize it. Is there any program that will COMPLETLY erase and format a CD-RW?

I have tried using Nero and InCD to format and erase the CD-RW, but to no avail.

    Many thanks for your help.

  2. Did you try "entire erase" or only "quickly erase ? This could make the difference.

  3. Hello,
yes, I selected "COMPLETE ERASE" or entire erase, or whatever it is....the much longer method of erasing.

Do you know of any other programs that allow you to format a CD-RW?
    thanks

I have the same software and erase CDRWs all the time. Then re-write over them with VCDs. I have no problems playing these on my DVD.

But my DVD only reads CDRWs. Not CDRs. It might be that yours cannot read CDRWs or you're using a type that it cannot read.

Check the DVD Players discussion on your specific player.

    Do not format the CD-RW's.

This burns a packet headder onto the disk that a DVD/VCD player will not be able to read.

Erase the disk and then make ypur VCD.

Of the software prompts you to format the disk say NO.

  7. Ok, so I use nero to COMPLETELY erase the CD-RW. The problem is, when I view my erased CD-rom in explorer, it says I still have a few VCD folders on the disk!!! Why is this? It also says that these files take up 2MB in disk space. Any ideas as to why these files aren't erased by Nero?
    thanks

  8. Strange, I always quickly erase my CD-RW (about 1 min), and burn S/VCD and never had a problem (using Nero).
Erasing then burn is the correct way.
There is no need to format the CD-RW.

  9. KTNWIN,
This is my problem; My DVD will not play SVCD, only VCDs. In trying to discover if it will burn SVCD, I burned several SVCD onto CD-RW. When I use Nero to erase this CD-RW (quick or complete, it doesnt matter), and THEN burn a VCD onto the CD-RW, the VCD wont play (although it WILL play when burnt onto a fresh CD-RW or an old VCD CD-RW that was erased).

Upon further inspection, when you view the SVCD CD-RW in Windows explorer (after it has been erased with Nero), explorer STILL lists an SVCD folder as existing on the CD-RW!!! This must be what is causing the VCD to not play in my DVD.

The question is, HOW DO YOU COMPLETELY ERASE THE CD-RW so that NO FILES WHATSOEVER show up on the disk when you select it in Windows Explorer?
    Thanks

It seems that you have a unique problem. Other people on this thread have had no difficulties erasing/reusing CD-RW's using Nero, but nobody is talking about which version of Nero they're using. Also, nobody is talking about what hardware (specifically the CD-RW drive) they're using.

Please post some details and that might help other folks answer your questions better.

I'm not expert on how CD-RW works, but the erase function may be handled by the drive directly (i.e. Nero tells the drive to quick/full erase the disc and it just does it on its own). If that's the case, you might want to consider going to the drive manufacturer's web site to see if there's a firmware update for your model.

Otherwise, I would suspect your version of Nero.

    Hope these suggestions help.

  11. On my computer I have to eject the disk and put it back in for it to show up as blank.
