Just found out, using cdrid, that the new 100 pack of Fuji CDRs are now made by Prodisc Technology Inc and are of the phtalocyanine kind(short strategy). The previous versions were made by Taiyo Yuden and were of the other dye(long strategy), the one that is supposed to be better quality.
My question is, just how bad is the phtalocyanine dye? SHould I not bother burning with these new discs?
I wish there was a guide that would tell you what disc companies use what kind of discs and dyes.
Thx

Mocha,
I am not aware of any T-Y manufactured CD-R's ( under Fuji , TDK or Memorex selling brands) that do not distinguish themselves by the indication on the wrapper that they are " Made in Japan " as opposed to " Made in Taiwan" -
Thanks for the tip. So if it has Made in Japan on them, then itis Taiyo Yuden?

As far as I have experienced. For a long time the more obvious tip off was the packaging of the 50 spindle. The T-Y ones had the screw on retainer "nut" on a cake box cover, while the Taiwan ones were bayonnet style, but in the last year I have seen the former type packaging disappear in my market area.

The packaging of the TY Fuji's has gone to bayonet style. THe base is black and thin, and has a corrugated look. The best indicator, as said before, is the Made in Japan notice on the side. I heard that Fuji dropped TY as their supplier, and will be getting their discs from Prodisc in the future. The TY Fuji's that are available may be old stock and soon to disappear.
