I want to capture using an ADVC-100 and I'm going to be capturing to a 120G HD in an external Firewire enclosure. Anyone know if running the capture device and target HD both through firewire will cause any problems?

I don't believe so.
I remember reading part of the manual which stated the HDD had to be connected to the computer, rather than as a standalone type HDD, that seemed to me to be the only proviso.
If you check out the thread I made (ADVC vs ATI) there's a link in there to the ADVC manual, you'll get a better idea from there.
Good luck

This is exactly the setup I use and it works like a champ. My PC is an Athlon 1800+ so it's kind of mid-range by today's standards and I never have any problems capturing from my ADVC-100 to my 100GB external, firewire-attached HD.

I checked out the thread and downloaded the PDF manual. unfortunately I found no mention of how the HD should be connected. I don't really trust manuals completely anyway. a lot of people will tell you that something the manual doesn't recommend will work just fine in a real situation. I'm looking more for user input from people who have it hooked up this way. I doubt too many people have that exact configuration though. Thanks for everyone's input though.
