  1. Hi all,
My Philips widescreen Dolby PL TV has auto-switching for both picture format and audio mode. You can preset audio and picture settings for each channel and aux input (so you'd always have C4 in 16:9 and C5 in 4:3 for example) For some reason my VCR and Freeview box (coming in through Scart connections) cause the TV to switch its audio mode to 'Hall Surround' (stereo front is duplicated to the rears) , which is horrible and much louder than the other modes. I'm guessing that one of the scart pins is controlling this auto-switching because it overrides my presets, and i think i've tracked it down to pin 8. I'm not too keen on auto-switching anyway and prefer to have control myself (especially in this situation). Anyone else managed to fix similar problems by clipping pins from a scart connector?

    cheers
    El.

Did you try a differant scart cable. Maybe something is wrong with the one you have.

  3. Yeah, tried different cables. I'm sure there's a pin that's doing this. Obviously my VCR and Freeview don't know what sound modes are on my TV, but some signal is getting through which changes it. I know someone with a panasonic TV which refuses to let you manually change screen format when you're playing a dvd. It's a bummer cos she has a dvd disc in 4:3 format, the TV stretches it to 16:9 (yuk) and won't let her switch to 4:3 manually. So something must be going on inside her cable too. Bloody auto-switching!
