I'm getting a solid green screen on several attempts at copying VHS to my hard drive using ATI AIW 9000.

You can see the video at the top portion but 95% of the screen is solid green. Is this copy guard?

I've installed the patches from Lordsmurf's guides.

    Puzzled!

  2. It can be, when I try to pull copyprotected DVD VOBs over without removing the copy protection, they show up as you described.

Well, I'm at a loss. I bought the ATI because they advertised, "Convert your VHS library to DVD." They failed to mention their software recognizes copy guard.

I've downloaded and installed the patches Lordsmurf has on the site.

I still get the same thing.

  4. To be honest almost all conversion devices conform to copy protection (my old Dazzle does as well). The Canopus external ADVC-100 I know will bypass macrovision (don't know about others). That is the nature of the beast. There might be some "Hack" patches, but the legit stuff will probably not solve anything.

I know it works well going from DVD to my DVD recorder (not that I would backup a DVD this way) and VHS to my DVD recorder. If your problem is indeed macrovision it will strip that off so it should work for capturing just fine.

  7. It looks like from the FAQ that it just sits between the VCR and the Capture device so it should theorhetically work.

VCR-------->Macrovision Stripper------->Video Capture Card in PC.

But the big questions is, will the price of the device be cost effective for the # of tapes you need to convert. For me the 5-6 tapes I needed to convert with macrovision, the cost of just buying new DVDs of the same movies was less (and benefit of the PQ of the retail DVD vs conversion). But if the DVD is not available or you have lots to Convert, that is another story...

Excellenet point. I'll do the numbers crunch before investing.
