I'm in the process of converting a DV AVI file to Mpeg II with AC3 audio.
Should the max file size be less than 4.7 GB if I want this to play without problems in a standalone player or can I fill the disc completely?
I thought I had read something somewhere.
Thanks.

Left hand column under GLOSSARY.
DVD-5
DVD-5 is a single sided single layer DVD that stores up to about 4.7 GB = 4 700 000 000 bytes and that is 4.38 computer GigaBytes where 1 kilobyte is 1024 bytes(4 700 000 000B/1024 = about 4 589 843KB/1024 = about 4485MB/1024 = about 4.38GB) . Video DVD, DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W supports this format. Often referred to as "single sided, single layer". -
Thanks for the memory jog, however you would think the manufacturers would apply some common sense in labeling media as 4.7
Anyway, my project is 4.3 but programs claim the file is too large.... -
I ignored the warnings which the piece of crap software otherwise known as Adobe Encore gave me. I just went ahead and burned it and the project seems fine afterall.
and DVD shrink claimed the file was too large also??? what???
I have a hard decision to make when I reach the end of this trial, spend 500 quid or not spend 500 quid?
