  1. Currently when i am recording something on my panasonic dmr380 if i change the channel on one component the channel changes on what i am recording as well. Should I be able to change the channel on another component while recording? using a digital comcast cable box...

  2. You would need two tuners in the box in order to record and still be able to change channels. dish network had a box that would do that, but it doesn't work with regular cable. i am not sure, but, maybe some pvr boxes such as tevo may have a setup like that.

  3. thanks for the quick reply. It makes sense but I really thought I had read about other folks who are able to do this. Also I thought I saw in the manual it said, to watch tv while recording switch to tv's video input...for us that would be component 2 as we opted to not use the video port..Am I crazy or does this statement just not take into account folks using digital cable/channels above 125?
    thanks

  4. Best solution. Split your cable, sending one coax to the TV direct. Your Recorder is probably hooked via composie or RCA. Som, you can at least watch STandard cable no problem. Otherwise get a second box for your digital cable &/or a box with 2 tuners.

  5. if i split the cable will the signal degrade?
if i split the cable wont i still be using the comcast remote control to change the channel on both component 1 (currently tv to cablebox through component cables red, blue, green)
and component 2 composite (red, blue, green) dvdr to tv?
(dvdr hooked up with coax to cablebox and coax to tv)

i guess i am unclear on what splitting the coax is going to do for me..currently i am able to watch tv on both the tv (component1) and the dvdr (component2) however the hdtv channels dont come in well through the dvdr (thus the other hookup on componenet 1) and i use the comcast remote on both components. Even if i split the coax wont i still have to use the comcast remote and if so won't it still change the channel on both component 1 and 2?? or does this unit accept channels above 125 on its remote so i dont have to use the comcast remote? or am i just being dumb here?????
