  1. I have just learned of bink and downloaded bink tools. I encoded about 18 seconds of raw avi (yvu9 / 352x288) to mpeg and it took about 4 seconds (2000kb/s) and when I encoded to bink it said to take about 30 minutes!? Is this normal?

I played back the bink file and the colour seems to be much better than mpeg but I cannot tell if it is better quality all-round than standard mpeg1

If it is better then why is it not so standard as mpeg?

  2. Zip drives are in many ways much better than your old 3.5" floppy. Why aren't they as "standard"?

Just because something is "good" doesn't make it popular. The historical context behind it is usually much more important.

As for your question on BINK, I don't have any experience with it so I don't know if that is normal behaviour or not.

    Regards.
