    I'm not sure if this belongs here, or in advanced, so I'm guessing......

    When I use TMPGEnc to convert from [whatever] to SVCD/CVD/VCD, I always end up having to spell out a few things---almost always with the same values. I'd like to put these in the templates for SVCD, CVD, and VCD (at least, those that apply). What I don't know is how to do it (or if it can even be done).

    Here's what I want to set (so Project Wizard sees them):

    1) Motion search precision: High Quality (Slow)
    2) CD-R 80 min (i.e., 800 MB)
    3) use 100% of said 800 MB CD-R

    Along the same lines, I'd really like templates for NTSC-Film to automatically use "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)". This one would be an added bonus.....

    Anyone know how to do these, assuming they can be set in the templates?

    Thanks,

    You can make your own template but I found that some settings always get reset. It doesn't save all your settings. Here's a guide that describes how to make your won template: here.

    1st one is easy just load the template you usually use change that setting and save it as a new template.

    2nd one you have to open the template in notepad and change it in there.

    3rd i don't think can be done.

    Ok, for the first one (motion search precision): I opened each template, changed the setting, and saved them again (well, up to the point where diff gave me a clear view of exactly which one setting was involved---then I changed the rest by hand in vi).

    Result: In the project wizard, the settings are apparently ignored. Time for a bug report?

    As for the second (and changing it in vi...or notepad, if that's all you've got handy), I've done a diff on the SVCD templates, which set the default to a 650 MB CD, and the CVD template I got from someone here, which ends up being unknown media. The diffs are all audio/video settings...nothing to do with media type/size. So what variable needs to be changed? And what does it need to be changed to?

    And since nobody has said that the third is *NOT* impossible, perhaps it is..... Oh well.

    Thanks,

    The changes for most settings including motion search precision shouldn't be ignored when opening your new template in the wizard. Did you unlock the template you made your changes to?

    What is vi? "MPEG.WizardTargetMedia = MPEGConfig_TargetMediaType_CD_80min" is the line to make CD-R 80min the default media.

    Don't know if *I* unlocked the template---I'd assumed that TMPGEnc would do so when I saved the changes. I'll check that after tonight's vidcap encodes finish.

    As for vi, it's an extremely powerful text editor (with a learning curve that makes Mount Everest look like an anthill...but once you get past that....) originally from Unix, but now available under many OSs. VIM (Vi Improved) is my favorite. But as with any editor discussion, use what works best for you (I generally say the same for any software/OS issue).

    Oh, and thanks(!) for the info on the variable for 800 MB CDs! I'll set that tomorrow morning, when I check the lock/unlock status.

    Many thanks!

    Ok, #1 and #2 work fine now. As for #3, the following do have an effect, but I'm clearly not setting them right...as it's not the one I'm after:

    MPEG.WizardAutoCalcVideoBitRate = False
    MPEG.WizardAutoChooseList.EnableVideoSize = False
    MPEG.WizardAutoChooseList.VideoSize = <>

    Any suggestions on setting these? Again, I'm after 100% of 800 MB (as the default).

    Finally, let's add #4: for NTSC-Film, is it possible (load/settings/save didn't work) to configure it for "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)" instead of simply "Full Screen"?

    Thanks again!

    One last request for instructions on how to get TMPGEnc's project wizard to assume 100% of the disc as the default. So far, the consensus seems to be that it's impossible, and yet, I've found variables that seem to change its behavior here (though in ways that I'm not sure I understand enough to mess around with---and attempts at doing so have failed thus far).

    If anyone knows either way, please let me know. If not, I'll assume (for now) that it's impossible given TMPGEnc's current design params.

    Either way, what I've got now is still working far better than what I had before (i.e., next/next/next/next instead of next/fix/fix/next/fix/next/fix and so on).

    Later,
