im wondering this because i have an NEC 1300a and tonight i burned an entire DVD in under 13 minutes and thought this was kind of fast considering that ive been seeing reveiws of the 8x burners burning at 10 minutes. i am burning on memorex DVD+R 4x, here is a screen shot

To burn a full 4.3GB:
1x - 60min
2x - 30min
4x - 15min
The new 8x drives are CLV not CAV (like the 52x CDR drives). So it's going to take ~9min to burn a full disc (not 7.5min). As others mentioned it appears that you did not burn a full disc, so it's going to happen faster.
