  1. As the subject says... How do I do it? Pressing pause, pauses the recoding, at least as tested so far only using HDD. I've figured out how to record, access that recording and use Chase play, but not as convenient as simply "Pausing" live tv.

Can it be done? Or do I need to start recording, access HDD program menu. start clip there and pause?

Any other tips will be appreciated though. Still playing around so I would love to hear more from actual users on how they use it and find it best.

    For users in Toronto:

Auto ch setting is good on 61. Damn machine requests that you set the ch. manually for auto clock setting. Not so ******* auto in my books! Recording quality is virtually perfect to my eyes on XP & SP, LP gets a li'l soft, but still watchable (VCR quality), while EP is equivalent to VCR EP mode (and perhaps a li'l softer). I find the color bleeds, lose a significant amount of contrast and visual queues. Still watchable, but obviously poor quality.

I picked it up from TELETIME at 367 Yonge st. for $999. Plus there's a $100 rebate till the end of the month. Bought the 2 year extended warranty for $89. If you negotiate you may be able to save a few more bucks. Given that Future shop wants to rip us off for $1200. I felt it was fair. Shouldn't big box stores be passing on the savings from their buying power? They obviously pay less, why charge more???

Isn't "pausing live tv", "time slip" and "chase play" same thing ?

  3. I guess that they are all similar. The original benefit as descibed to me, was just pressing a pause button while watching any tv show on the original units. This one seems to require treating as if a standard VCR, Press record, and mute or turn off TV. Then look up this program in your list and start playing. From that point on it is in chase play format. So, you can catch up, but definitely can't "Pause" live tv (i.e. if taking a phone call, or interrupted by your wife).

I guess that's why Tivo is Tivo. Smoother, more functional layout.
