I have some avi files (movies), that i am not able to play with any player (crystal player media player classic, bspalyer). I have installed several codecs , with seperate windows installations, with no result. When i run gspot to see what codec is used i get the message "Non avi file - Type unknown". Any help?

I have seen, every GREAT once in a while, MOV or RM files that have been accidentally renamed as AVIs. You might try just renaming the files to have an .MOV or .RM extension and see if you can play them.
I suspect, however, that these movies may just be too corrupt to play, or were authored improperly. You might also try opening the files with something Like VirtualDub(Mod), Vegas Video, Adobe Permier, Pinnacle, etc. and see if they can recognize them and/or repair them. But this is a longshot since Gspot can't identify them.
Good Luck
