I have writen a bunch of SVCDs using Nero 5.0.3.8 and WinOnCD and all play fine on my Pioneer 545.
But, they come up with PBC on the screen and as such, I can't seen a 'timer'.
I just assumed that this was how the Pioneer plays the disks.
But I just borrowed an SVCD from a friend and the appears as 'VCD' and I get a 'track number' and 'timer' on the screen.
How can I write a disk without PCB?

You can create VCDs without using PBC (i.e., VCD1.1) with VCDImager.
Also, the "timer" issue has nothing to do with PBC -- but rather something with Nero. Do a search on this on the forums as it has been discussed a few times already (and some solutions were given).

on discs recorded using play back control [pbc], starting playback on your pioneer with the >>| 'next' chapter button instead of pressing 'play'. this should give you the counter display. hope this works for you.
