Just Got the Lite On 411S drive -Please Suggest an Enclosure

    Hi All,

After waiting too long I finally got the Lite On 411S dual format drive yesterday. I have a laptop and a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card (2 ports) that I will use when burning from my ext USB 2.0 HD to the ext burner with USB 2.0 interface as well.

Any concerns with this setup? I have read about people having issues when both HD and Burner use USB ports, any particular enclosure I should go with that has a higher success rate?

I was thinking about this one. http://www.dealsonic.com/bymecoidetof.html

I am thinking about the combo enclosure just to be safe, eventhough I do not have a firewire port on my machine, but I thought if all fails with USB may be I will just have to buy a Combo PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 and FW for the setup to work, but again I will have to shell out like $ 50 for the card which I would prefer not to.

Please respond, I would like to order this thing by COB today.

    Cheers.

    Cataphract,

    I have the same enclosure:

    http://www.byteccusa.com/product/enclosure/ME-320.htm

I use it with a LG 4040B dvdr unit and Fujitsu P5010D notebook via both USB2 and Firewire with no problems. I set the IDE jumper at "CS" for auto select with no problems. I did not try the "master" or "slave" settings.

The LG 4040B performs like a champ via the enclosure. Please note that this combo unit come with a 6 pin - to 6 pin firewire cable. You will need a 6 pin - to 4 pin firewire cable for use with most Notebooks (you can check this on your laptop).

    Sabesh.

    Thanks for sharing that dude.

I actually don't have a firewire port on my machine, I plan to primarily use the USB 2.0 ports on my PCMCIA card.

I have no idea about the Master/Slave setting either, I thought may be that only applicable to people installing it in desktops. I will check about the "CS" setting as you mentioned, need to do some research now.

That enclosure looks like mine as well. I have my 411-S in it; it works great. I have the drive set to Master, BTW, so I'm not sure it matters. Check the user guide that comes with the enclosure; it would be the ultimate authority on this.

Great. Hopefully my Lite on burner will work too with that thing. Which interface do you use more often, USB or Firewire ?

    Cataphract,

I use the USB2 port more than firewire, because I only have space for the enclosure to the right of the laptop (on my desk): the laptop has USB ports on the right and firewire on the left
