I am so excited...I did this w/ a lot of reading and not much asking...now comes a time when i have read but cant find an answer...so here we go...
First i my camera records in AVI and I couldnt figure out how to get to play on my TV well ....with great tools that yah have i figured it out and used TMPG and have converted my AVI to MPEG which if i understand i now just need ot burn it ot CDR and wala VCD works in my DVD.
RIGHT?
Now here is the question at hand...Is there a way form me to make sure this is all right besides wasting a CDR to find out each time i screw up that i did something wrong?
I know it is just .33 but that adds up and im cheap.
TIA

In answer to your question, I'd recommend that you get a couple of CD-RW to avoid burning coasters.
Also, in terms of burning the mpg that TMPGEnc produces to a CD... don't just burn the file as a data disc (although many players will be able to play the file from a data disc).
Nero can author VideoCD's (VCD) - there's an option in the wizard.
Alternatively, you could use VCDEasy to author - it can also burn, or you could use it to create an image, and then burn that with Nero.
There are guides on the left that cover this - look for author a VCD as this is the step you are trying to complete.
N.B. Authoring is a different thing to burning - authoring means preparing the file(s) to be burnt for a disc such as (S)VCD/DVD.
The process normally goes Encode->Author->Burn.

Firstly you need to author your disc for VCD. Just burning an mpeg to CDR as data, does not make it a vcd.
What you can do is burn a disc image, using software such as nero. You can then use daemon tools to mount that disc image as a virtual drive. So effectively it looks like you have a CD inserted in your PC. You can then try playing it with a software DVD/VCD player.
The only way to determine compatability with you stand alone player is to burn it and try it. -
CRAP...
So what your saying is im going to have to buy software to get this done?
Druid:
You say that most DVD player will play the data disk fine...if that is the case then y go through the other? Also sorry for the FAQ question...didnt know that was what i point i was at so didnt know to look there.
The thing is if i have to buy some software, i would rather just go ahead and buy a burner that comes w/ the software. Right? -
Oh and what i use now for burning is Roxio EZCD PLAT....does that do the authoring thing?
-
I've no idea if Roxio can author VCD's itself, but it probably can.
There's still a free version of VCDEasy available though, or at least there was until recently.
It does a better job of authoring anyway - and it can also burn with the right ASPI settings in place. If not, you can use it to generate images, which any decent burning app should be able to use to burn your discs.
When I say most players can play unauthored MPEG-1, I may be exaggerating a little. Mine certainly does, and I think most cheapo players based around a PC-type DVD-ROM drive (like mine) will.
The reason I still bother to author proper (S)VCD's is that you get many other features - menus, chapters, alternative audio channels etc.. and it's also better for compatibility (i.e. they'll play on players other than ones similar to mine.)

[edit] yep - the freeware version of VCDEasy is still available - follow the links in the text above to go to the tools page for it on this site, from where you can get the free version. Get it while you can - I'm sure I've read somewhere that it won't be available for much longer.. [/edit] -
Well i downloaded it like you suggested, but i started doing some checking and YES...Roxio has it already....gonna try it when i get up.
Thx....will let all know something later...
Thx again -
Well Roxio has what it called Video Impressions on its Plat 5. and it did it all....
Thx for all the help.
