  2. If it is constant all the way through you can set an offset when you encode in TMPGEnc. If it is variable you would need to shrink or stretch the audio by the required amount so that it matches the video. You can use goldwave for this.

  3. Is there an easy way to determine the amount of out-of-sync, or do you just have to do trial and error runs?

If it does not cause too much trouble, load the original video into Gold Wave. Select Edit-->Silence. Add 12 seconds. Save the file as a wave file. Go to TMPGEnc, load the original video as input video, and the new wave file as input audio. Name the new file. Select Start. The new video should be in synch.

If the video is extremely long, try doing this with a five minute sample first.

You can set an audio delay in Virtualdub and it's easy to test as well. Load your avi in Vdub, go to audio>interleaving and then you can enter a number under delay audio track. The digits are milliseconds so 1,000 = 1 sec., positive #'s move the sound later and negative #'s start it sooner. When you have entered a number then you can test the delay by playing the video in Vdub by hitting the > button. You can drag the indicator to different parts of the video to test it in several places. Stop the video and make any adjustments until you get it right. File>save wav when you're done or you can frameserve the audio and video together.

Whenever I have had to use this feature I have just encoded a minute of the footage and used trial and error to get the number of milliseconds just right so that the audio syncs. If you put a value in and it gets worse use a negative value.

  10. I like the ZippyP way, but would like a clarification. When you frame serve the file to Tmpgenc, you then have to set the delay that you found into Tmpgenc because saving the wav in Vdub doesn't save the delay. It only determines it. Right?

Set the audio to full processing mode and it should keep the delay when saving wav or frameserving..

If you know where it goes out of sync then you need to edit out the bad frames from your original file. Use virtualdub again, there's a guide on how to edit with it in the Edit section.
