  1. Hello all,

I have a dv file captured with my canon zr-10 camcorder (interlaced i think) and i want to convert it to dvd format so i can create a dvd later. I am using tmpgenc, but i am not sure if i need to deinterlace the source or not. When i play the file encoded in tmpgenc without deinterlace on bsplayer, the result is not very good. But i will only play the dvd that i will create, on stand alone dvd players and windvd. So do i need to deinterlace the source or not?? If i really need which of the tmpgencīs filters are the bests to dv source?? Tanks for the help.

  2. If the intent is to play on a TV or other Interlaced scanning device, then you do not de-interlace.

If the intent is to playback on a computer or other progressive scan device, then you must de-interlace in order to avoid "comb effect" distortion.

    Rule of thumb ...

Capture (Interlaced or Non-interlaced) based on the source .

Encode (Interlaced or Non-interlaced) based on the intended viewing device.

** If you will be playing it on both interlaced and non-interlaced devices (i.e. TV and computer), I would recommend leaving it interlaced and use a computer software DVD player that automatically de-interlaces. I know PowerDVD does, but I don't know about WinDVD.
