AVI to (S)VCD?

How do I convert an AVI file to an (S)VCD file so that I can watch it on a standalone DVD player? Or what's the best way to do this? I have a DVD burner.

Pop that puppy in dvd2svcd and let it do all the work for you. When you're done converting, mount the outputted image with alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools and do a cd-copy with the authoring program of your choice.

is there guide that tells me how to do this? i'm am a newbie and don't understand anything about this without step by step guide.

so this converts my AVI to DVD onto a DVD-R? so i can watch it on a dvd player? or what? i dont understand.
